Who’s In Charge Of Your Destiny?
I love spring! Summer is probably my all-time favorite season because of the long days and warmth. (plus I was born in the summer) But, spring is a time for new beginnings. There’s something special about spring. The flowers starting to bloom, buds on the trees, grass getting greener…it’s so uplifting and filled with hope! Looking out my office window, I see a gorgeous azalea bush. Looking closer, I see a bumblebee just doing its thing. Doing the “thang” that God created it to do and fulfill a much-needed job for the survival of the species. Which made me think, if a tiny bumblebee has such a great purpose, so must we all. Do you believe in destiny? Are you on one specific track in life (good or bad) that cannot be changed?
Free Will or Fate?
If you believe in fate, then, whatever happens, is meant to. There is nothing that you can do about it. What a scary thought! Unless your life is absolutely perfect. (Which I have never met anyone with that fate, have you?)
If you believe in free will, then you and you alone create your destiny. (I think this is closer to the truth, but not the whole truth).
In all honesty, I’m a believer in both. I believe that we all are born with specific traits, quirks, personalities, gifts, etc…to fulfill a specific purpose in the universe (fate). We are here not only to fulfill a purpose that benefits the whole but to learn some lessons along the way (free will). Some of us (or maybe most) don’t even know what that purpose is. We fumble around in life just doing our “thang” not knowing the impact it has on the greater good. Just like the bumblebee.
We actually don’t need to know what our purpose is to fulfill it here on earth. Why? Because our highly intelligent universe knows and will continue to show us alternatives on how to get there. Knowing your purpose can make the ride a bit easier though.
We do have free will. We have predestined hurdles that we will meet in our lifetime. These are made to help us get stronger for something we will face in the future or help someone else out. These are also meant to reroute or pause us if we are going in the wrong direction. Why? Because our highly intelligent universe (God) has our back.
What we do with these roadblocks or hurdles is our choice. We could choose to learn from them or we could choose to ignore them, blame others, sulk, and be defeated. In which case, we will repeat the lesson over again in another area of our life until we get it right. But, it’s always our choice on how we meet the challenge.
Where Two Worlds Touch
A favorite book of mine, Where Two Worlds Touch, by Gloria D. Karpinski, is one I’ve read several times. I read it for the first time in 1997 when I was going through my divorce. It helped me understand some difficult things from a spiritual perspective. The book is about learning to embrace change as a part of your spiritual homework.
We all have Teachers, Classrooms, and Lessons. Who and what are they?
Try this exercise:
- Take a sheet of paper and make 3 columns.
- In the left-hand column list every person of importance in your life. Parents, siblings, lovers, spouses, children, your boss, close friends, and/or anyone you interact with on a regular basis.
- In the second column, beside each name, write down the context in which you know the person. (school, work, home, church)
- In the third column, next to each name listed, the quality or emotion that comes up first for you when you think of that person. (be honest, it’s for your eyes only)
- Now, in big block letters, write over the first column, “MY TEACHERS”; over the second column, “MY CLASSROOMS”; and over the third column, “MY LESSONS”.
- Think about it. Honor your teachers, your classrooms, and your lessons. You created that perfect space to learn and the perfect people to learn through.
Finding Your Purpose Through Astrology
As I’ve mentioned earlier, we don’t need to know our purpose but we all want to. Knowing what you’re here for is comforting. Having directions and a roadmap is easier than driving aimlessly and not knowing where you are going, or where the traffic jams are. Just like when you are struggling with a tough chapter of your life, and trying to find meaning in it all, wondering if and when you’ll get through it. Having validation that you’re on the right track is very comforting.
Some people don’t believe in astrology because they feel it goes against their religious beliefs. Or, because they think that relying on some “quackery” to predict your future is just wrong.
That’s okay. I’m not trying to impress my beliefs on anyone, just trying to offer a glimmer of hope and understanding to those questioning their lives. Because I know that the same God who created you and me, also created all of the stars and planets in the sky. The more I study astrology, the more it cements my belief in God. Nothing this intricate and complex could be random.
In a natal astrology chart, you can see all of the quirkiness, and specific personality traits in a person. You can also see some of the possible areas in their lives where they may struggle. Does this mean that you can predict what tragic event will happen? NO! Or predict their future? Absolutely not. Because we have free will. No legit chart or astrologist can tell you what you will choose to do with your life. That is 100% up to you!
However, a natal chart can help you understand yourself better. It also can help you understand why you’ve been hung up on certain life lessons. Or, it can help you see how and where you shine best, whether it be your career, your relationships, your craft. It can give you the direction you need to pivot if you feel like you’re struggling.
When I look at my chart, it does validate the things I intuitively feel about my purpose. It also validates some of the lessons I’m trying to learn and how best my specific God-given traits and talents can help overcome whatever challenge comes my way.
This is where two worlds touch. Destiny meets free Will for a beautiful and loving, lifetime relationship.
